Pleated Pouches by Keyka Lou

Project Name: Keyka Lou Pleated Pouches Downloadable Pattern

Dimensions: Small – 4″ high x 4.5″ wide, Tall – 5.25″high x 3.75″ wide, Large – 5″ high x 9″ wide

Sewist: Carrie

I love patterns from Keyka Lou! During my nightly check in the “What’s New?”  I discovered this fun new pattern. Off to my sewing room and into the stash. My collection of Sandi Henderson called out to me as a great fit for this project. I decided to piece the pouch front bringing together a handful of favorites.

Keyka Lou patterns are always easy to follow. The step by step instructions and picture illustrations make for fun, successful sewing. I recently purchased Wonder Clips which came in very handy on this project. They are perfect for the many layers in the final step of sewing up the pouch.

The pattern calls for a Velcro closure. I decided to try a “real” button. I learned that I have too much strength with a seam ripper for opening the center of the button hole. Next time I will cautiously clip with a sharp scissor to open the hole.

The design has a great pleat in the front. I love the style and how it makes the tiny pouch roomy.

Vintage buttons, I just can’t resist collecting them. This one is perfect for my notions pouch.

Thank you Keyka Lou for this fabulous set of pouches. I have so many ideas for them.

I have a tip on not making too big of a buttonhole. Place a straight pin at the end of the buttonhole perpendicular to the hole with the pin going right into where you want to stop your buttonhole on that end. Use your seam ripper and the pin will not let your seam ripper go any further! Place the pin on the other end of the buttonhole and do the same. Works every time for me.

I second Susan’s method. I learned another method in university which is pretty much setting it on a self-healing mat and using an x-acto knife. Worked great when you had so many buttonholes…

Too cute! I echo your fondness for Keyka Lou patterns. She does a great job making them very clear and understandable with helpful photos. To avoid the seamripper running away, I usually poke a whole at each end of the buttonhole. Then carefully push the ripper to the center from each end. It is heartbreaking when the seamripper cuts too far!

    Thanks for the review!

The most sure-fire way to perfect buttonholes after sewing is to use a notion that is actually a block of wood and a handled chisel with a sharp edge.
After sewing the buttonhole, put a small amount of Fray Check in the center of the buttonhole where there are no stitches. Once dry, use the block and chisel and you get a fool proof, perfect cut!
This handy buttonhole cutter set can be found in most notions sections in your favorite shopping site….

The first thing I noticed on this pleated pouch was the button – and I thought, I have that button in red but they are vintage buttons (came from a family friend just last week) – and then in your post you state it’s a vintage button. The pouch is pretty – like the S.Henderson fabrics.

So, so cute. Ms. Henderson’s fabrics are delightful–why is it I don’t have any of them in my stash. Must remedy immediately!

Hola! I was interested to know if setting up a website such your own: http://www.pinkchalkstudio.com/blog/2012/03/30/pleated-pouches-by-keyka-lou/ is difficult to do for unskilled people? I’ve been hoping to create my own blog for a while now but have been turned off because I’ve always assumed it required tons of work. What do you think? Many thanks

Hello, I think your blog might be having browser compatibility issues. When I look at your website in Firefox, it looks fine but when opening in Internet Explorer, it has some overlapping. I just wanted to give you a quick heads up! Other then that, great blog!

Awesome blog! Do you have any helpful hints for aspiring writers? I’m planning to start my own blog soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you suggest starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many choices out there that I’m totally confused .. Any recommendations? Many thanks!

My spouse and I absolutely love your blog and find the majority of your post’s to be exactly what I’m looking for. Do you offer guest writers to write content to suit your needs? I wouldn’t mind producing a post or elaborating on most of the subjects you write about here. Again, awesome weblog!

When I originally commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get several e-mails with the same comment. Is there any way you can remove people from that service? Appreciate it!

Thanks for your article. I would also love to say that your health insurance dealer also works well with the benefit of the coordinators of your group insurance coverage. The health insurance broker is given a summary of benefits looked for by someone or a group coordinator. What any broker does is find individuals or even coordinators which best match those wants. Then he provides his advice and if both sides agree, the particular broker formulates an agreement between the two parties.

Thanks for giving your ideas. One thing is that pupils have a solution between fed student loan plus a private education loan where it can be easier to go with student loan online debt consolidation than through the federal student loan.
