I first met Candy when she volunteered to test the Note Taker pattern oh so many years ago (May of 2007 to be exact!). Candy was an awesome contributor to that pattern and has been a friend ever since. I’ve watched her successfully pursue her passion for fabric dyeing and art making and I’m so excited to be writing here today about the release of her first DVD!

Fabric dyeing is something I’ve always watched from the sidelines. I’ve bought plenty of other people’s work and enjoyed sewing with it but never jumped into the actual tub of doing it myself. I found the DVD extremely captivating and Candy’s style of teaching accessible and easy to understand.

I will also say I’ve never watched a Quilting Arts Workshop DVD before. Where have I been!? Wow, talk about a class in a box. Every detail of the process is presented step by step, beginning with how to dye single colors and then moving on to multihued fabrics. Candy goes into detail about her color chart – appropriately named the Candiotic Table of Elemental Color. As a scientist and teacher, her methodology of experimentation and tracking her results is extremely enlightening.

The DVD includes specifics on exactly what supplies are needed and Candy’s recipes for these 6 jewel tone hues.

A final chapter on the disk features Candy demonstrating her free motion machine sketching technique and her approach to using hand dyed fabrics in her art. I’ve always loved that Candy creates art that can be worn and used on bags and accessories in addition to pieces that can be hung on a wall.
Dyeing to Stitch is a comprehensive guide to Candy’s dyeing process done beautifully with details and backstory that are sure to inspire anyone interested in learning to hand dye fabric. Congratulations to Candy on such a magnificent job!
You can see more of Candy on her Candied Fabrics blog. The DVD is available for purchase as a disc or a download.
For an opportunity to win a copy of the DVD leave a comment sharing why you dye fabric or would like to learn. I’ll draw a winner on Saturday.

My friend and I make dyeing fabric a day-long event. We love it for the sheer creativity and playfulness of the process and the sense of wonder as the end product exits the dryer at day’s end. I would love to hear more about the way Candy keeps track of all her colourful creations!
I dye and sell wool yarn, but haven’t done any cotton fabric dyeing. So, I’ve very interested in this DVD. As a new quilter, I’m so in love with all fabrics, but I’d really want to match yarn to fabric. Wouldn’t that be neat?
It would be nice to go beyond tye dye. the colours look so vibrant.
I took a fabric dyeing class many years ago and it was simply fun. I loved seeing the finished product, not knowing quite what to expect added to the anticipation. I’ve hoarded the fabric I dyed then ever since! Would love to try again and learn different techniques.
I have never dyed my own fabric but I am very excited to start. I love the vibrant colors and I would like to dye fabric for my sewing projects.

This DVD looks fascinating! I have done a little bit of this technique, but not enough to claim to know anything about it, so the DVD would be most helpful.
I dye fabric because each piece is a work of art.
It’s just plain fun to dye fabric.
I love dyeing my own fabric because I learn so much about color in the process. The color theory I’ve learned from dyeing has helped me understand how to use multicolored prints and combine prints more effectively.
Other than tie dying tshirts in my younger years, I’ve never dyed fabric. It look like an inspiring way to create great quilts. Kathie L in Allentown

I would love to learn how to dye fabric because the results look so rich and unique!
I’ve read about Candy’s DVD on some other blogs, but the photo you show with one fabric spread out (and other folded pieces on top) shows an awesome dyeing technique! I’d love to learn how to do that.
