Hi! I am Kay Whitt, designer of Serendipity Studio patterns. This is the studio where I create my designs. I love my space, especially my custom built sewing table and work island! My husband and I built the island. I can’t tell you how wonderful it is to spread my work out on its surface! It even has a hidden slot underneath the top on one side so I can store my rotary mat. An added bonus is the overhang on one side with the stools so I can sit and work from time to time.

Where I Sew is a month long celebration of the spaces we create in. Add your sewing room to the tour!

You two made the island? Is there no end to your talents? I’m impressed…and reminding myself to be thankful that my sweetheart has ceded the dining room table to me.
Yes, we started with a VERY basic cabinet structure from Home Depot and worked it over, adding the beadboard and lots of other custom details. I decided to paint it with cheap old flat latex (even the countertop) and distress it a bit since I knew it would be a workhorse for me. Now I can go in and touch up with paint and a bit of sandpaper whenever I need to.
HI Kathy, I’m loving this series so thank you so much
Ooh, that is the prettiest studio I have ever seen! Love seeing where people create – it’s inspiring me to go and sort out my sewing room!!
Awesome!
All I can say is, WOW!! What a beautiful room, maybe I should be rethinking my sewing room!!
Every time I see one of these in the series, it makes me feel worse about my own space. I REALLY need to start tarting it up.
Of course, every one of these talented people have really cleaned up for the shoot.
Maybe if I just did that, I’d feel better, huh?
I SO cleaned for the photos! I wish it looked this way all the time, believe me!!
The island is wonderful! Can’t believe you made it, it fantastic!
What a wonderful space! I wish mine looked something like that!
An island to stand and cut/draft and pin at would be lovely.
I want an island instead I have the guest bed. Need to figure this out! Lovely sewing area.
That’s exactly what this room was before we converted it to my studio. I spent a lot of years bending over a bed to cut things out. My back and shoulders have thanked me time and time again for getting rid of that bed.
Beautiful studio! I think I will plan a redecorate soon.
I am in love with this sewing room! So many great ideas, and I adore the window valance!
What a beautiful space. I love the colors.
Such a happy happy space! If I entered that room, she may have to check my handbag for that chair as I would be compelled to take it…
Glad you like my chair! It is a roller office chair from Office Depot that I slipcovered. Then you can’t see its generic office ugliness…all the support and pretty too!
What a wonderful and cheery nook! Love the polka dots and yellow/red combos zing!
I think this space comes closest to my dream studio – very nice! I love the idea for a slot to store your cutting mat.
Hi Kay, how great your sewing studio looks! It’s totally you. It was so nice to have you as a neighbor at Quilt Market and now to see where you create all your beautiful things. Greetings to Keith also!
Thanks Brigitte! You were a very nice neighbor as well. Hope to see you in the fall at market. Regards to Martin!
Beautiful room! I wouldn’t expect anything less from Kay Whitt; her work is amazing!
No wonder so much talent comes forth from you – your beautiful sewing room is brimming with creativity! My daughter and I love our sewing patterns – she just finished sewing the tunic dress.
Thanks for sharing your talents!
Gone are the days from when you hid your fabric under the guest bed and in the bottom drawers of the dresser.
Looks great, wish I had a space that was all mine.
What a great place to be!
How I wished my space looked like that!
What a charming studio! Very much akin to the spirit of Kay’s work. I love your designs, Kay
That’s the cleanest sewing room I have ever seen! What a gorgeous bright and happy room!
I am really enjoying the opportunity to see other people’s sewing spaces. Very inspirational, and interesting how each person’s space reflects their personality.
Fantastic space to create in…and I love what you did with your walls!
What a gorgeous space! So much light, and space, and inspiring design everywhere you look! Someday…
Love your studio, especially the chair cover…gotta make one of those, it is so fresh!! Red/white polka dots are another personal fav of mine, too!!
I am SEW jealous!! Beautiful sewing studio. So bright and cheery.
Love Kay’s studio. It looks so pretty and inviting. And your chair would look perfect in my sewing room. I may have to borrow your slip cover idea.
Beautiful Studio; congrats!!!
I have to say, Kay’s space is my favorite so far. It is so creative and I would truly be inspired to create in her room.
Debbie
What a beautiful space!
Sure looks different from the original bedroon. Now you have everything in the same room right at your fingertips. It is truly a seamstresses dream come true…..D
So true! Wish you could have a space just like it.
What a bright cheery workspace! I love that you made the island yourself; I’d like to learn a little basic woodworking one of these days.
I really love this, everywhere you look there is inspiration! Definitely the kinda place I could create!
This is amazing! Who wouldn’t want a space like this for themselves?!
So glad to see your sewing studio! That island is perfect!
Ellen
Thanks, Ellen! That is truly a compliment coming from you. I love what you have done at your home!! It is very inspiring.
The curtain valence is darling!
Wow, that island is impressive! I love your room!
Another amazing, inspiration woman in the field! I love her patterns, books and everything she makes. The room is fabulous, love the dotty chair.
I love the creamy color on your walls! Just wondering if you can share the paint color as I am looking to paint my room soon. Thanks!!
It is actually a soft yellow. I painted the space years ago, so I don’t know if Glidden still has the color name the same, but at the time it was called Cornsilk.
Thank you! I will check that out. Beautiful! I love the island, too and hope to enlist my husband in such a project this fall. Did you start out with base cabinets?
Okay I just want to visit and have a nice cup of lemonade and watch her create!
Yours is my absolute favorite! “SEW” my style!
Wow, that just looks like such an inspiring room! I was thrilled to see that your chair is just a plain old office chair under that cover. I have one I’d really like to cover like that – any tips? I’m still learning so be gentle
I am in LOVE with your space! Any chance you would share the plans for either the island or the table? I’d love them both!
your valance is ADORABLE!!!
How cute is that room? Adorable! I may use those oh,so very cute valances as an inspiration for my room!
Undeniably believe that which you stated. Your favorite reason seemed to be on the internet the simplest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I certainly get annoyed while people think about worries that they just don’t know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and also defined out the whole thing without having side effect , people can take a signal. Will probably be back to get more. Thanks
