Welcome to Week 28 of the One Yard Wonders Sew Along!
Week 28 – Project 62
Hands-Free Belt Bag – designed by Rebecca Yaker page 169

Tracy selected Michael Miller Fabrics Mini Mikes Baby Boxes Lagoon and Michael Miller Fabrics Mini Mikes Dot Duo Citrine.
Materials Needed:
One 9″ coordinating zipper
1 1/2 yards 2″ webbing
One pair of 2″ D-rings
3 1/2″ of 1/4″ elastic
One 1″ swivel clasp
Sewing machine zipper foot

Tracy’s Tips and Thoughts
- Tracy chose to make the bag into a makeup bag, however the word on the runway is The Fanny Pack is back in.
- The Hands Free Bag is an intermediate to advanced project.
- Pockets are stitched in place before the assembly of the bag.
- In place of the loops on the back Tracy added two sweet pockets in fun contrasting colors. There is lots of room for embellishment such as contrast piping and a covered button.
- The Stitch Terminology on page 13 is helpful in step 10. A staystitch is a line of stitching just inside the seam allowance used to stabilize the fabric.

Ready to go…
Week 28 – Project 63
Grocery Tote – designed by Jessie Senese page 174

Cindy chose Valori Wells Wrenly Bloom Cobalt - Home Decor and Valori Wells Wrenly Wildfield Cobalt
Materials Needed:
1 yard of 44/45″ or 54″ fabric (Home Decor weight; not suitable for unidirectional prints)
One 5″ x 11″ piece of heavyweight interfacing (such as Peltex or Timtex)
Cindy’s Tips and Thoughts
- Simple to follow pattern.
- Step 6 states to insert the heavyweight interfacing piece through the opening in the liner. Before stitching the bag together, Cindy fused Peltex to the bottom of the exterior fabric (making sure to center it). Adding the Peltex before stitching will avoid shifting while sewing.
- Sewing and pivoting the structured seams was a bit fussy when coming to the corners. To avoid puckers Cindy made a “Y” seam by backstitching, cutting threads and re-starting in the other direction.

The grocery tote looks likes a good useful size for me. Thanks for showing it. Kathie L in Allentown
Wow–I’m really loving the fabric choices on that hands-free bag! The green bias trim really pops…
Both bags turned out great ~ really like the fabric used for each bag and now I’ve got to make them!
Nice. The fabric for the grocery tote really pops!
I love the conversion of the hands-free bag into a makeup-bag. Super cute! Now I want to make one too.
Both projects turned out so well and the fabric choices just sing!!!! Thanks for all the inspiration! Happy weekend to each of you.
Ooh, fun! I love the idea of turning the fanny pack into a makeup bag and I really like the grocery bag as an all-purpose tote!
The blooms fabric is beautiful!
Great job on both! Love the color choices on the first bag. The second pattern looks like a really good one for a general tote.
Thanks for this huge project. I look forward to the results each Friday.
Thanks Kathy! We are having a lot of fun. Support from our blog readers makes it all worth while. We are happy you are enjoying the sew-a-long
Great projects! I’m going to check out the “makeup bag” pattern right now. Loving the covered button! I purchased my set and want to add buttons to everything I make! Carrie: my sewing machine is making crooked stitches and I’m taking it in for a look today – right in the middle of all my projects! May need to borrow yours or scrap all my best laid plans for the next week:(
That is not good timing
You can have my machine for the weekend. I hope it is a simple fix for your machine!
As always, I just love the fabric combinations. I’ve started my own 1 Yard sew-along….I am sooooo slow!
Love this tote! I think I need to make some of these!
Both bags turned out great!! The fabric choices were awesome and that helped
Every project so far has looked so well made – including these two most recent. Are all PCS employees veteran sewers?
We have sewing experience ranging from 6 months or less to 35+ years! Some who mostly sew garments, some who had only quilted to this point…it’s been great to advise and encourage each other, and each of us has learned new techniques and/or tried new things.
Gorgeous.
Both of these are great! I love the green on the hands free bag and the tote I’d adorable! Nice job!
I love your fabric choice! I made 2 of these out of a heavier weight cotton and solid cotton for the liner. I love how simple they are to make.
I love the grocery bag. I want to make one this weekend!
Love the fabric choice on the hands free bag. The green and black really make it stand out.
Uber cute girls!!!!
Inspiring! Love the cobalt blue in the tote—and the hands free belt bag would be just TOO handy on outings with the grandkids. I have the One Yard Wonders book, but your posts have been an inspiration, as I see the products with other fabric choices.
I love the fabrics in the first bag, and the 2nd too. I’m dying to get my hands on some Wrenly fabric!
Both of the bags came out so beautifully.
I still haven’t made a bag, but hoping to do some this year.
Debbie
The Wrenly was the fabric I was most excited about, but now that I see the finished project I adore the little boxes.
Gorgeous! I love them both!! Great job!
THat Wrenly fabric is yummy!
I love the fabric for the grocery tote!
As always – superb hints on these. Makes my attempts much easier.
PS. I don’t care who says it – no fanny packs in this house please!!!!
Wow, I think I really like that hands-free bag. I don’t even remember it from the book, thanks for the pg. #.
Both bags are too cute! I love the fabric choices on both bags!
