Welcome to Week 19 of the One Yard Wonders Sew Along!
Week 19 – Project 44
Jewelry Roll – designed by Valerie Williams pg. 122

Melissa selected 3 fabrics. Nancy Mims Pick a Bunch Queen Annes Lace Orchid, Nancy Mims Pick a Bunch Scattered Flower Orchid, and Nancy Mims Pick a Bunch Daisy Scroll Orchid – all Organic Cotton
Materials Needed:
1/2 yard of light weight woven fusible interfacing
two 7 inch zippers
1 1/2 yard of 3/8″ wide grosgrain ribbon
sewing machine zipper foot

Melissa’s Tips and Thoughts
- This was a GREAT project. Very easy and only takes about an hour.
- Melissa liked the pattern/instructions as they are. She did make the ring ribbons a little bit longer (instead of 7 inches, she cut them at 11 inches).
- To complete the jewelry roll Melissa top stitched around the edge of the final product even though it didn’t call for it.

From Melissa, “It turns out very cute….I will be making this again. This might be what my female friends and family will be getting for the Holidays this year. I was also thinking it would be a great gift for newlyweds before a honeymoon.”
Beautiful Sea Glass Necklace created by Pink Chalk team member Diana of Sea Gem Studio.
Week 19 – Project 45
Collapsible Shopping Tote – designed by Shelley Crouch pg. 125

Alicia chose Michael Miller Fabrics Zoology Sea.
Materials Needed:
1 package of 1/2″ double fold bias tape
1 snap fastener or Velcro square/circle

Alicia’s Tips and Thoughts
- Easy and straightforward pattern.
- Janis showed Alicia a nice trick for cutting out the pieces. Fold the fabric lengthwise down the middle, then fold it lengthwise again. Pin the pattern piece to the fabric and cut. You only need to cut once to get both pieces!
- Alicia used binding tape for the tie straps rather than creating straps from main fabric (She liked the look of the yellow tape against the gray, and thought that the main fabric had the wrong scale for skinny straps). A second package of binding tape was needed since the binding of the handles used one whole package.
- A pocket was created from scraps of fabric from a previous One Yard Wonders project. The fabrics are Michael Miller’s Dumb Dot Gray and Tiny Gingham Aqua.
Detail of Janis’ layout tip

Alicia gave the bag a cute little loop for easy retrieval. She is ready for shopping. I wonder how much fabric she can fit in that bag?

I love that jewelry roll. I sure could use one of those. Jewelry in a ziploc baggie is not pretty when you get to your destination.
The jewelry roll got such high endorsement that I might attempt it even though zippers intimidate me.
I love the Pick a bunch fabric line. I’m not a jewelery person, but I’m sure something so pretty could be used for lots of things. I like the fold up bag and appreciate the hint on cutting it out.
I’m putting that jewelry roll on my to do list! I’m enjoying this series and seeing how all the projects look in different fabrics.
I love all the little details on that jewelry roll. It turned out beautifully!
I love both! I’d been pondering that bag for a while and now I think I’ll make it!
Both are super lovely!

Still gotta get this book! Yall are having so much fun!
You’ve done it again — fabulous fabric selections for the projects. Truly inspiring!
Wonderful!!!! So cute and practical, well done.
Really like this jewelry roll. I can see me using this when I travel (which isn’t often since I retired). Love the fabrics.
Both of these turned out so cute! I especially like the jewelry roll – and I feel encouraged to try this one if it can be done so quickly! Great gift idea!
That shopping tote is ingenious! So refreshing, too, to see something different from the standard market tote
Thanks for sharing,Kathy!
These are both so cute!
Cute projects! LOVE the jewelry roll and I will be making some of those! The fabrics she chose are great! So cheery.
The Queen Anne’s Lace is especially pleasing!!
As usual, you guys are awesome!!! What great fabric choices. That jewelry organizer turned out beautifully and I can’t believe it only took an hour. I’ve GOT to give it a shot!
Both of the projects came out beautifully.
Great ideas for gift giving.
Debbie

Cute project! Thanks for the tips.
you girls continue to amaze me. i still need to get this wonderful book full of great projects. i love all of the fabric selections for each project! kathy, your website has truly evolved!
Once again, lovely work. The jewelry roll came out especially well.
I’ve been so interested in the jewlery tote. Nice to see another example. I owe myself a sewn project all for me. This may be just what the doctor ordered.
I’ve been looking for a shopping tote pattern with just the right proportions (big enough handles, deep bag) and this looks like it fits the bill – love that it rolls & snaps up too. I’ve been eyeballing the Zoology fabric for a while too, hmmm… kismet?
Awesome! Can hardly wait to try these.
I like that tote, I think I will have to try my hand at it soon!
Great and practical projects! I really like the idea of a collapsible shopping bag and jewelry roll would be perfect for traveling!
The jewelry roll turned out beautifully and thanks for the cutting tip on the bag!!
I adore the fabric used for and the final product of the collapsible bag, am closer and closer each week to buying the book!
The jewelry roll is awesome!
LOVE the way that shopping bag folds up and stores – keeps it all neat. And I love that fabric too!
Thanks so much for the inspirational tutorials. These are wonderful and affordable gifts!
Loved the jewelry roll. I am currently keeping my jewelry in the little pouch they give me at time of purchase. But I will be making this roll with several pockets to put lots of different stuff. Thank you.
[...] used the method that Alicia used to cut out her bag. (One Yard Wonders week 19) Fold the fabric over lengthwise to match the width of the pattern in the size needed, cut out [...]
I LOVE this grocery tote that fits in the handbag. Actually I am making one very much like this (loved that zoology print!!) and my question is, what kind and color of bias tape did you use? Standard double fold or larger double fold. Also I wonder about the color. I bought Lemon Ice and after I brought it home it looks, well, a tad too light a color. I know these are fairly dumb questions but I plan to make bed caddys plus the grocery tote for Christmas gifts and I have a fair amount of fabric invested.
Any help you can give me would be GREATLY appreciated. Joanne
