The Socialite Dress pattern by Anna Maria Horner. Made and modeled by Susan.
This is such a fabulously stylish, flattering and easy pattern to make. It has a limited number of pattern pieces, lots of ease and detailed pattern instructions. A customer inquiry kicked off the inspiration to use different fabrics for the yoke and arm facings (you can’t see the arm facings in the photos since they turn to the inside). Both fabrics from the Del Hi collection by Valerie Wells.
The fit is fantastic. Susan pointed out to me how the gathers along the neckline create the bodice dart, allowing for adequate ease through the chest. She chose to make a smaller size for the top and graduated the seam to the next larger size for the bottom. No other changes to the pattern were made.
Happy Summer Sewing!

Hi Kathy, I can’t get my email to work for some reason – but wanted to say thank you so much for getting my Del Hi fabrics and Stitches magazines to me so quickly. They were waiting at my front door when I got home today which was a great surprise. They’re now strewn over my sewing space for me to drool over.
Thanks again!
Cute as can be. I don’t sew clothes but if I did this is something I’d love to make and wear.
oh, i LOVE this. i think i’ll have to broaden my horizons and finally make myself some clothing!
this came out great! the two different fabrics look great together. I already washed my fabric (thanks again for the coordinating fabric!) and I’m ready to go. Just wondering if I should make a muslin first or if I should just dive in today
That looks great. The large print really works.
Wow, I am so inspired! I have this pattern, but haven’t made it yet. I really love the fabrics shown here, and the cut looks great! Thanks for the tips.
I love this dress. I had seen the pattern in your shop, but it was never on my list. Now that I am seeing this version, I am not sure how long I can wait to make it. Great inspiration.
i’m glad to see people making this dress. from the picture on the pattern i expected it to be terribly unflattering- especially on someone who actually has some hips. the belt gives the dress nice shape and quite a flattering look. i may have to try this one out afterall.
Super cute
Thanks for the inspiration, just starting to see this made up, and this is my fav version so far!
Very Cute. She looks so pretty in it also.
Looks so cute in these fabrics! I reviewed this pattern at Sew, Mama, Sew! recently (http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=808) and used contrasting fabrics as well!
Super cute! As you know I am in the middle of making up mine (purchased from your shop!). I am using a quilting weight cotton and lining in cotton batiste. It’s taking a bit of rigging to add in the lining, but I think I’ll feel more secure in it (no show through). Going to my sew workshop tonight so I’ll have three uninterrupted hours to finish it and a friend to help me with the hem pinning. Yippee!!
Oh, and I bought it because Amy’s review on Sew Mama Sew was so great. Thanks Amy!
Thanks for sharing this. The pattern looks great and also fairly simple for a beginner like me who hasn’t really attempted clothes before. I have put this one on my list of things to try.
Wonderful! Nice to see a pattern done up in different fabrics, terrific inspiration.
Perfect job!! xoxo, Anna
This dress looks like something I would live in all summer! Beautiful fabric choice too.
I’ve been admiring that pattern from afar, especially since my success with the AMH Multi-Tasker Tote. Susan appears to be about my size, or at least my proportions, and it looks great on her, so now I’m especially inspired to add this to my list.
What a beautiful dress, I love the fabric. Clarice
This is so cute! I wonder how it would look without a belt (my waist disappeared years ago, although I’m trying to find it again) and maybe some leggings underneath–the kind with lace around the bottom at the ankle (it’s none too warm here)? Hmmmmm…. At any rate, this is very very cute!
I’m wearing my version right now, made from pattern & fabric purchased from Pink Chalk. I’d say if you were thinking of getting this pattern you should, it’s fun to sew & easy to wear.
This pattern has been tempting me for ages…. I believe i’m now sold. I do love the complementing fabrics… gives a little extra pizzazz!
love the fabric you chose for it too!
Great dress – I love how the straps are a little thicker, for those of us who don’t love what that armpit/base of the arms looks like on us!
It’s beautiful. Definitely on my to-sew list!
Very cute dress – must try this pattern out!
PS I heart Valorie Wells
I just ordered this pattern and some fabric from you–can’t wait to try my hand at it. A closet full of this dress would see me through the summer in lovely style!
Hmm it appears like your website ate my initial comment (it was super long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I had written and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your weblog. I as nicely am an aspiring weblog blogger but I’m still new to everything. Do you might have any points for novice weblog writers? I’d surely appreciate it.
