New Space

I’m laughing at the heading on my WordPress page as I write this, it says ‘Write Post’.  I’ve looked at that text for over two years now and it just hit me as the funniest thing ever given my latest bout of writer’s block.

My sewing room doubles as the guest bedroom. The switch over requires me to breakdown and store all my equipment, replacing it with a queen sized bed frame which I put together and disassemble after every visit. My latest brainstorm after my parents left was to permanently switch bedrooms with Leil. She sleeps in the never-to-be-disassembled-again queen sized bed and bunks in with Caitlin when guests appear.

It was a fabulous idea until the switching of spaces took place. It’s rather sobering to come face to face with every item in your sewing room. Abandoned projects, forgotten supplies, questionable purchases, ugggh. Where did all this stuff come from? No wonder my husband thinks I’m crazy, I am!

Once I got over the guilt of excess I started pairing down, organizing and moving the bookcase at least 10 times. Each time putting all the contents back on the shelves before deciding to move it again. It’s exciting to get a new space. Everything is so neat and tidy. Space for my creative ideas to leap out.

I’m trying to ignore the monster in the closet:

Brilliant. That’s exactly what we do over here. When guests come, Josh moves into his “playroom” and the guests get his bedroom. That way all I have to do is switch the sheets, pillowcases and duvet cover into something more “grown up”.
I have those drapes in my family room BTW. Love them!

Funny comment about the monster in the closet. That’s why I keep my closet doors shut – at all times. :)

I moved into my new craft space about 6 weeks ago and it already needs reorganization. My advice is to take your time and do it right the first time. Looks great so far!

I had to laugh about your sewing room/guest bedroom. I too have the same problem. The guest futon comes down out of the attic every time and I about kill myself. My family all knows they get 3 nights at my house 4 if they flew here;) Oh and the monster in the closet….

What a lovely window to sew in front of. I second the call to take your time and get stuff organized right the 1st time…although, “right” is a moving target!

I just took 2 huge bags to goodwill and STILL have too much stuff! Unbelievable. My husband totally thinks I’m nuts.

Your new space will be wonderful. So nice to start anew.

Thank you for including the “monster”! I only wish mine could be confined to the sewing room closet. Enjoy your new room!! I love the curtains.

Ha! I’m wading through all of my sewing *stuff* this week. I swear it procreated while in storage. (See my current post and make yourself feel a lot better…)

Really? Everyone’s monsters are confined to the closet? Nice job! Mine is romping around the spare room in the form of a couple UFOs and, newly acquired from Grandma, a HUGE box of yet-to-be-explored fabric scraps and an antique spool cabinet. And yes, the husband just shakes his head and the door stays closed. :-)

I love sewing in front of a window too. It won’t be long until you have everything moved and you feel right at home.

Yeah, sorry about the monster in the closet. We all have those – maybe not in a closet, but under the table, in the corners, and other more obvious places. The only way to face it is head on and quick like pulling off a band-aide.

That’s not half as bad as my space! My closet is stuffed to the gills with art supplies — for sewing, knitting, stamping, painting, glueing, graphic design, drawing … you name it. My big brainstorm was to get the kids’ art supplies out of my room and into their own craft space (that also got a lot of stuff off the dining room table!). Eventually, my sewing room will have a couch with a pullout bed. Yours looks great! So clean and tidy — even the closet doesn’t scare me.

ha! my space is only 12 m² and under the roof, in more than half of the space I can’t even stand up – not to speak of closets and boards!
your place looks lovely to me – nevermind the chaos. just close the door of this closet! ;)
oh, and: LOVE these curtains! *sigh*

I’m so jealous of your new space with actual daylight. It’s beautiful. I’ve been entrenched in our basement for 33 years. We get too many overnight guests to use a bedroom. And hubby thinks we’re going to downsize.

Isn’t it nice to have a place of your own– even if there are a few monsters in your closet–better than skeletons anyway!

The room looks wonderful for creative work. it’s because of the monsters that I’m grateful for the doors on the closet!
