I’ve been carrying this purse since last September. I love it. So much so that even though I’ve made several others in the intervening months I never carried any of them for more than a few days. I was always right back to this one. I used Vogue pattern 7701, View F and made it a couple of inches wider and the strap long enough to wear the purse across my body. The fabric was a new barkcloth I found at Esther’s. The embroidery and beading (both sides!) took several weeks. This is definitely a one-time creation.
As summer comes on full swing I wanted something new in summer colors. I’ve been admiring this design ever since I spotted it in the Japanese craft book Machine Made Patchworks. Recently, Autum at Creative Little Daisy put together a tutorial (initial tutorial and follow-up tips). Just the spark I needed to make myself one. Very fun purse to make.

Oh, it’s not really goodbye, is it? Just letting her rest for a bit? That really is the problem with being able to make your own purses…I love all of them, and don’t want to part with any of them. The quilted bag really IS fun to make, and yours looks really nice. Don’t you love how fabrics just come together through the quilting process?
Love the new purse and the water bottle carrier both. I keep wanting to make some bags – I’ve bought lots of patterns – but I never seem to get around to doing them.
Both are lovely! You never come up for air, do you!!
oh thank you so much for that link –I have coveted that purse all over the internet and now I can make one!!!
what a lovely post on your fabric stash I am so jealous that it is soooo organized!!! Ikea is a super fun outing for me too!
it would be hard to say good bye to that beautiful red bag, but your new one is grogeous!! Beautiful choice of fabrics. Thanks for the tutorial link.
p.s. like your new banner too!
great job! – love you new banner, and like the lettering even better now.
I LOVE the purses! I especially love that second one and I’m going to have to check out the tutorial, etc.
Off to check out everything else.
I’m glad you said it was fun, this is one bag i would like to try and make. You have done a wonderful job on it.
Love the purse! Until now I’ve only made tote bags before, but I think I’d like to have a nicely designed purse, especially with all the pockets *I* need inside!!
Just lovely bags. And thanks for finding the tutorials, I’ve been wanting to try one of these bags so badly!
Oh, what a lovely purse!
